Ceiling fresco from the 18th century
Ceiling fresco in the Meerscheinschlössl from the 18th century
Mozartgasse 3
The 300-year-old illusionistic ceiling fresco by the Italian Baroque painter Giulio Quaglio the Younger (1668-1751) measures an impressive nine by nine meters. The circular scenario from 1708 depicts the victory of the Christian religion over the pagan world of gods. In the center, a brightly shining female figure enthroned on a cloud represents the triumphant church. She brings down the gods of antiquity, whose dynamic rotational movements correspond to the Baroque pathos.
The Josephine-classical wall decoration that still exists today was probably commissioned in the first decade of the 19th century. The stucco medallions show portraits of emperors decorated with meshes, rosettes and plaits.
